About

The Translator & Editor

Originally from the Caribbean island of Dominican Republic, I'm a translator, editor, interpreter, writer, and artist in tree-filled New Hampshire, USA.

The Attitude I Bring to Each Project

I came to the United States from the Dominican Republic at age four in 1995. Shy, different, and with only a few close friends, I gravitated toward journaling, a solitary activity, after learning what it was in school.

I enjoyed the weight and dimensions of journals and books. The stories I loved as I got older, such as Catch-22 and The Extra Man, were coyly funny, the type where if you weren't tuned in, you might miss the joke. To this day, I love language and words.

I love being Latin American too. Having immigrated to the United States so young motivated me to keep my culture strong and alive within me, and language—written and spoken—is a huge part of that. When communicating between my two worlds, even when no perfect translation exists, a translation must be made.

That's where the translation magic happens.

It's true that things can get "lost in translation"—that's the beauty of different languages and cultures (and why translation apps don't cut it)—but it's my job, and pastime, to preserve the essence of the message. I have fun finding the best phrases in both languages.
